Best Baby Prams Australia Reviews

Take a look at our best pram reviews and choose which one is the best for you personally.

Best Budget Pram: Matilda Stroller

Specs

  • Age: 6 months +
  • Max Weight: 15kg
  • Pram Weight: 11kg
  • Dimensions: 101 x 58 x 95 cm unfolded

If you like the Jengo Panorama above but your budget won’t quite stretch that far, the Matilda Stroller from Mocka is extremely similar and comes at a much lower price. We’ve been using this pram with our youngest for about 2 years and I’ve been very happy with it.

You get a lot of pram for the low price tag here and it’s an amazingly low cost option for those on the budget. The best part is that it doesn’t look like a cheap pram but instead looks trendy and the finish is really nice. It can be used from birth as it lies down flat and grows with your little and can be sat up gradually as they grow. The seat can be faced forward or backward, depending on your baby’s preference.

Another great thing about this pram is that the handle extends to three different heights at the push of a button. It means that my partner (who is very tall) can easily push the pram without feeling hunched over but I can quickly switch it back to a height that suits me too. The storage basket underneath is also very roomy and I can fit tons of groceries in there.

The whole thing folds down really quickly, either with the seat attached or with it unattached to make storage easier. A quick hint is to leave the brake off when you fold it and that way the wheels help you easily roll it into the boot of the car.

What we love:

  • The low price tag and how good it looks compared to many other cheap pram options
  • The sun canopy comes almost all the way down so it’s very easy to block the sun or give baby a slightly darker environment for sleeping.
  • The 3 position adjustable handle is great for parents of varying heights

What we don’t love:

  • Sometimes the front wheel lock on our pram engages when I stop and park the pram and I need to remember to unlock them before taking off again but it only takes a second.

How to Choose the Best Baby Pram

If you’ve been wondering what are the best prams to buy, there are really quite a lot of options available out there and it can be quite confusing when deciding on which one to purchase.

In order to narrow down your options, it’s great to know some, if not all of the features that will play a vital role in helping you decide which baby pram is best for your baby. Whether you want the best cheap prams Australia has to offer or the best brand of stroller available, here are some factors and features to check out.

Age and Weight of Child

The age and weight of the child should be a consideration before deciding on a stroller. These factors are what determine which pram suits each child as there are different prams made for different age ranges and have different capacities. Always check the guidelines listed on the website or product description.

Size and Weight

The size and weight of a stroller are important to consider, especially for parents who go on trips with their toddlers. Standard single and double prams are a bit bulky in size and weight but can sometimes be the best prams for walking on unfamiliar and potentially uneven paths.

Umbrella and travel prams are designed to be lighter, making travel simpler – but do check they also work well on uneven surfaces if you’ll potentially be travelling to somewhere where this is an issue. You may need the best pram for small car travel – these fold up compactly, and usually flat, making for less troublesome car travel.

Wheels and Brakes

Prams are made with different wheel sizes and materials. Common materials used for stroller wheels are standard rubber, air-filled, pneumatic, and air wheeled with sealed ball bearings – each has its own pros and cons and differ in their best uses, whether they’re the best walking pram or jogging pram.

Some prams also feature brakes which are very helpful and add safety, especially for slippery and downhill roads.

Backrest/Recline Options

Many of the top baby prams on the market feature reclinable seats – meaning they can be adjusted from a sitting position to a nearly flat sleeping position for babies. Perfect for parents that need to be out of the house for a few hours.

Safety

Safety must be a top priority when choosing your pram. Many of the best pram for newborn to toddler have several safety features such as five point safety harnesses which will keep babies secured in their seats even on bumpy terrains. Be sure that the pram you choose complies with safety regulations – read more about those here.

Other Features to Look for

Easy Fold – The best compact pram Australia is not just lightweight but packs an easy fold feature too, making it great for travel use.

Adjustable Handles – These types of handles are for parents’ comfort, especially if you’ll be pushing the pram for longer – if the handle isn’t at the right height for you, you’re able to adjust it to your liking.

Reversible Seats – Some prams are made bi directional, meaning they can be set facing you or ahead. This can be great for when you want your baby to get to see the world but also want to keep an eye on them when they’re sleeping.

Canopy – This protects baby against the heat of the sun – many are also waterproof.

FAQs

Prams, Strollers, Buggies?

You may hear all these terms thrown around and wonder what exactly they each mean. Technically, prams are for newborns to six month olds and they’re often non collapsible although some top rated prams do offer this functionality. Strollers are for older babies and are usually foldable. Buggies can refer to any of the two. Nowadays though, best rated prams Australia offers have the benefits of all of these products in one so these terms are used interchangeably.

Do I need a pram?

There’s no doubting that prams can be a big expense and you might wonder if you actually need one or not. You can of course just carry your baby on your body, using a sling or another type of the best baby carrier. This is fine if you’re not going far, or don’t have lots of shopping to carry. But you’ll quickly find your baby gets very heavy to carry like this and most parents eventually do opt for a pram. Bear in mind you can find the best affordable prams, Australia, to cut down on cost.
