Baby Walker Reviews

Here are my top choices for baby walkers!

Classic World Wooden Pusher

Specifications

  • Type: Standing
  • Material: Wood
  • Age Recommendation: 18 mo+

The Classic World Wooden Pusher is a very cute and non-annoying push walker that your toddler is going to love. It doesn’t require batteries and doesn’t have automatic songs or flashing lights- a good thing in my opinion because those can drive you wacko after about 5 minutes. It has a solid bar on the top for the baby to hold on to and the wooden wheels have rubber lining so you don’t have to worry about scratches on your floor.

The Classic World Wooden Pusher has lots of entertaining activities built-in on the front panel like a little xylophone (with an attached wand so your toddler won’t lose it!), a clock with moveable hands, and flip pictures and knobs. The art details on the walker are darling and whimsical – a nice complement to a little child’s room or even your living room.

What we love

  • It doesn’t require batteries
  • It has an easy to grip handlebar
  • It has rubberized wheels that are easy enough for babies to steer and maneuver around

What we don’t love

  • None. Love this!

CaterBee Walker & Table

This has been a great buy. My son has had this toy for a while and loves to play all the music and sounds on it. He is 16 months now and still plays with it. – Lara

Specifications

  • Type: Standing
  • Material: Plastic
  • Age Recommendation: 6 mo+

The CaterBee Walker & Table is multifunctional – it is a push walker that also can convert to a standing activity table. I had a version of this walker when my son was a baby and he absolutely loved it. The wheels have two speeds that you can adjust as your baby gets more coordinated, which is something I really appreciated because if the wheels are too fast it’s easy for your baby to lose their balance when they first learn to start walking.

There are loads of activities in the CaterBee Walker & Table like a phone, piano keys to push, and knobs to turn. It’s battery operated so be prepared for some noise pollution. The option to turn it into a table is a great feature because when your baby gets bored of pushing it around, turning it into a table breathes new life and excitement to it. It’s also easy to clean because it’s plastic. It’s a reasonably priced push walker that will provide hours of entertainment for your baby.

What we love

  • You can convert it to a standing activity table
  • You can adjust the speed of the wheels
  • It’s easy to clean

What we don’t love

  • It can be too loud

VTech First Steps Baby Walker

My little one loves this walker! It has been a great help in helping her learn to walk. She spends so much time pushing it around the house and building her confidence. The sounds are a cute feature too! – Maggie F.

Specifications

  • Type: Standing
  • Material: Plastic
  • Age Recommendation: 6 mo – 30 mo

The VTech First Steps Baby Walker is a bright and colourful push walker that grows with your baby from when they can first sit up through their toddler years. The activity panel can detach from the walker and be set on flat surfaces when your baby is sitting up by themselves and is portable enough to be taken on road trips or on vacation.

The VTech First Steps Baby Walker has a two-speed feature for the wheels (one of my favourite features for walkers) and a nice big handle at the top for your baby to grab onto. It is battery operated and has the option to turn down the volume (thank goodness). It has a ton of activities for your baby like buttons, knobs, windows to open, and keys to push. The legs fold in too so it’s easy to store.

What we love

  • It’s easy to store because you can fold in the legs
  • It has a two-speed feature for the wheels
  • It has a ton of activities for your baby

What we don’t love

  • It is hard to clip in the activity pad

Little Tikes Light n Go

Little Tikes Light n Go 3 in 1 Walker & Activity Table

Great for my 12 month old for trying out his walking skills. Gave him the confidence he needed to let go of the furniture. Also loves the light up toy side of it. – Nikki

Specifications

  • Type: Standing
  • Material: Plastic
  • Age Recommendation: 9 mo – 3 yrs

The Little Tikes Light n Go push walker is three toys in one. The activity table is a unique curved shape so that when it’s folded down it is not flat on the floor but raised up enough for beginning sitters to easily access the activities. As your baby grows older the wheels can lock the push walker upright and it becomes a taller activity table.

A fun feature the Little Tikes Light n Go Walker and Activity Table have is that it projects a rainbow kaleidoscope light in front of the walker as it gets pushed. My babies would have loved that! It requires batteries but it’s got a big textured handle and lots of activities to play with.

What we love

  • It’s easy to put together and really sturdy
  • You can adjust the wheel sensitivity
  • The light projection keeps the kids entertained

What we don’t love

  • A lot of reviews that they received their walker as Dutch or French speaking toy

ELC Little Senses

Specifications

  • Type: Standing
  • Material: Plastic
  • Age Recommendation: 6 mo – 3 years

The ELC Little Senses reminds me of a tiny skee ball arcade game – but it’s a baby walker! It has a little hole to put balls in and they pop back out at the bottom. It’s simple but will provide lots of entertainment and help improve hand-eye coordination for your baby or toddler. The handle is adjustable so it can grow with your baby as they get taller.

The ELC Little Senses baby walker can collapse for easy storage and the activity panel can still be used in its collapsed state. Besides the balls, the activity panel has a removable telephone and other fun knobs and keys to press and make lights and noise.

What we love

  • It helps improve hand-eye coordination for your baby or toddler
  • The handle is adjustable so it can grow with your baby
  • It can collapse for easy storage

What we don’t love

  • Might be too tall for some babies

EverEarth Activity Walker

Looks much better than the picture. Loved by my granddaughter. Useful for keeping toys in. A good push along toy. – Pauline

Specifications

  • Type: Standing
  • Material: Wood
  • Age Recommendation: 12 mo+

The EverEarth Activity Walker is a  light and compact wooden push walker that is perfect for young toddlers. It has knobs, a xylophone, a flip puzzle, and other activities that are simple but entertaining for little minds. There are no batteries to worry about and it’s small enough to be stored even though it doesn’t fold down.

Since this walker is on the lighter side and does not have a two-speed wheel option, it would be easy for your toddler to push it a bit faster than they can handle so it is best for more coordinated walkers. It does have a hidden netted storage area that is just right to hold the xylophone wand and sorting blocks that fit in the shape sorter on the side of the walker.

What we love

  • It has a great collection of activities for a child to enjoy
  • It doesn’t require batteries
  • It’s small enough to be stored

What we don’t love

  • It does not have a two-speed wheel option
  • The xylophone is not metal so sound is not great

Le Toy Van toys are very good toys and this is an extremely well made baby walker, with a solid wooden tray full of lovely colourful building blocks. What is particularly impressive, though, is how incredibly stable it is. – Sue C.

Classic World Block Wagon

Specifications

  • Type: Standing
  • Material: Wood
  • Age Recommendation: 12 mo+

The Classic World Block Wagon is a push tray for the 30 alphabets/number blocks it comes with. My toddlers loved blocks, and this push wagon would have made a great carrier for their other toys too when they weren’t using it for the blocks. The blocks help with early colour recognition, along with number and alphabet recognition. The blocks can even be used when they are in grade school as you can make math equations with them.

The Classic World Block Wagon is a push toy that will have a lot of longevity in your home. As babies, they can stack blocks and work on walking. As toddlers and little kids, they will get more and more out of the numbers and letters on the blocks as they learn more at preschool and kindergarten. The wagon has rubber-lined wheels and the colour scheme is gender neutral so you can save it for a little brother or sister once your kid has outgrown it.

What we love

  • Kids can use it as a carrier for their other toys too
  • This push toy has a lot of longevity in your home
  • The blocks help with early colour recognition, along with number and alphabet recognition

What we don’t love

  • None!

Classic World Pink Pram Walker

Specifications

  • Type: Standing
  • Material: Wood
  • Age Recommendation: 12 mo+

If you’re looking for a baby carriage for your little toddler’s dollies, the Classic World Pink Pram Walker is an attractive choice. It is wooden but light and easy to push with an easy to reach the handle. The pram’s curved body is raised up so that dollies can sit up and peek at your baby as they push them around.

The Classic World Pink Pram is a combo of a push walker and a stroller, so you can save yourself some space and money by just getting this and not a separate stroller and push walker. It doesn’t have the entertainment options that other walkers have, but works as a push wagon for other toys than dollies and is very multifunctional. The wooden wheels have a rubber lining which will save your floors.

What we love

  • Putting the walker together was quite easy
  • It is light and easy to push
  • Kids can use it as a carrier for their other toys too

What we don’t love

  • It doesn’t have the entertainment options that other walkers have

Retro Car Walker

Vilac 1009 Retro Wooden Toy Car Pusher & Walker

Specifications

  • Type: Standing
  • Material: Wood
  • Age Recommendation: 12 mo+

Your toddler will love zooming around your living room, pushing the wooden Retro Car Walker. It is vintage looking and well crafted with attention to detail- this is a walker that you’ll want to keep around for future siblings once your toddler outgrows it. This walker’s body is a car with an open body, perfect for pushing toys and stuffies.

The Retro Car Walker is big enough for toys but wouldn’t fit a friend inside, although I’m sure they will try to squeeze in this sweet little ride. Fortunately, it’s very sturdy so it can handle the extra weight on occasion. I love the blue body with smart red wheels and a yellow handlebar.

What we love

  • The push handle is easy to assemble
  • It is perfect for pushing toys and stuffies
  • Great rubber wheels make the car easy to push

Types of Baby Walkers

So, what is a baby walker? There are a few different types of baby walkers out there that work best for different ages and coordination stages:

Seated Baby Walkers

Seated baby walkers are baby chairs with wheels and a tray in the front. The seat is a sling where your baby’s feet stick out and touch the floor. The height can adjust as the baby grows taller and they allow your baby to move around before they are strong enough to actually walk.

There are mixed reviews on these types of walkers: on one hand, they help build up the strength of your baby’s legs and help them work on their coordination. On the other hand, they can actually delay walking development because babies prefer the walker to try to walk on their own.

Seated baby walkers can also make babies more mobile than they should be at such a young age – there are cases of babies who get injuries from falling down the stairs etc. We understand that some parents may choose to use them, but due to these risks, we don’t believe they are a good option so we will leave them out of our reviews.

Standing Baby Walkers

Standing baby walkers are baby push walkers; stands with wheels that usually have some sort of entertainment or toys built into them.

We recommended standing baby walkers because they’re the safest baby walkers and the best push walkers ensure the baby is already strong enough to stand before leaning to take steps. The best first steps baby walkers also help the natural progression from standing to “travelling” whilst holding onto things to walking unaided.

What to Look for in the Best Walker for Babies

Here are some factors  to consider  when looking for the best standing baby walker or push walker for your baby:

Materials

Baby push walkers can be made of plastic, wood, or a combination of those materials. Some parents may prefer to avoid plastics, but they are actually a very lightweight option and make it easier for the baby to move around.

A wooden baby walker is heavier but it’s natural and the extra weight could provide more stability. Make sure to check that the material of the wheels allows for ease of pushing and won’t make scratches on the floors.

Activities

Almost all baby walkers are activity baby walkers with interactive toys and activities on the front. These are great for babies that aren’t even ready to start pulling up yet because they can just sit in front of or next to the activity baby walker and play with the toys.

Once they start pulling up and walking, some of the walkers have special noises and songs that play only when the activity walker is being pushed.

Ease of Use

Make sure the walker you choose is easy to push. The best walkers for babies have easy to grasp handles and aren’t too heavy. The best walker for a baby will also usually have large chunky pieces that are easy for fumbling fingers to grasp.

Ease of Assembly

Baby walker toys come disassembled in a box – so don’t forget to look for something that’s easy to put together and assemble so you don’t want to stab your partner in the eye with a Phillips screwdriver by the end of the process.

FAQs

When to use a baby walker?

A baby walker is great to use when your baby is just starting to walk, as it helps build strength in their legs and improve coordination. Use a baby walker for playtime in the living room, or bring it with you on vacation so your baby can walk around and be entertained.

What’s the best age for baby walkers?

The best age for baby walkers is when your baby is starting to pull themselves up and wanting to start taking steps – so anywhere from 10-14 months. However, you could get one as early as when they start sitting unassisted if the walker locks and has an entertainment panel they can reach from a sitting position.

What’s the best way to help the baby walk?

The best way to help the baby walk is to follow your baby’s lead. As soon as they start pulling themselves up on furniture and “bouncing” their bums or “traveling” between surfaces, take one little hand and move back a tiny bit. If they step toward you, take the other hand and gently pull that one forward too (their feet will eventually follow!).

Also, encourage them to use a baby walker to pull themselves up on – they’ll start pushing it on their own as their legs get stronger.
